Dear Customer,
Welcome to our new 'bulletin' page, which will be updated periodically with relevant news, discussion & info. I do hope that you will find it useful!
Autoclaves - Steam or Vacuum? - we weigh up the odds...This is a topic request from Mr. S.(Cornwall), with thanks.
A lot of topical conversation with customers has been which type of Autoclave/Steriliser to purchase. Ultimately, it is always up to the operator to choose, but the following criteria for practitioner differential use is recommended:-
1. Steam Autoclaving.
- For sterilisation of instruments on open trays.
- On site usage only, with short term cassette storage.
- Suitable for most Surgery/Clinic 'in house' applications.
2. Vacuum Autoclaving.
- For sterilisation of wrapped instruments within hermetically sealed pouches.
- On site usage, with long term storage.
- Suitable for Surgery/Clinic applications + logistical domiciliary applications.
Many enquirers are asking about changes to Autoclave specification and requirements. Although nothing is yet obligatory, indications are that many professional associations and bodies, along with the Health & Safety Executive, will soon be advising accordingly.
With this in mind, from 2010, Chiromart UK will be only offering for sale autoclaves which operate a 134 degree centigrade cycle and with a printer.
All customers are advised to make their own enquiries before committing to a purchase, as it could be a costly mistake to acquire the wrong type of equipment.
This is a topic request from Miss F. (Yorks), with thanks.

A lot of topical conversation with customers has been which type of nail drill unit to purchase. Ultimately, it is always up to the operator to choose, but here is a list of potential pros & cons:-
Dust Extraction:
No nail dust to the work area - PRO.
No coolant to the burred surface, friction heat spots may alarm the patient – CON.
Wet Spray:
No dust to the work area – PRO.
Wet spray coolant stops friction heat spots – PRO.
Wet effluent combined with nail dust may soil the patient foot and surgery floor – CON.
Do ask yourself some questions before you purchase from such portals as Internet Auction Sites:-
- Does the equipment work properly?
- Is it safe, fit for purpose and legal?
- Is the person selling it the rightful owner?
- What warranty, if any, am I getting with it?
- Do I have any real recourse if things go wrong?
If any answers to these questions are ‘NO’ or ‘NOT SURE’, then BUYER BEWARE!
